We have had fall leaf hand prints hanging from our tree in our classroom. We decided to paint the children's hands and make Christmas trees. Eric had fun doing his.
This past week we introduced patterning to our students. We began to create, copy and extend patterns using a variety of materials. We then used these concepts and integrated them into play. Take a look at all the great incidental patterns in our classroom.
We placed bingo dabbers and strips of paper at the math centre for the students to make pattern strips. Nash decided to staple four together to make a picture frame and the others decided to follow. Great idea Nash!
We read the story How Full is Your Bucket? to the class. This is a great book to teach students ways to make others feel good as well as making yourself feel good.
After reading the story we brainstormed ways we can be bucket fillers and ways that we can be bucket dippers. The children did a great job brainstorming different ideas.
When we were done our circle we integrated the idea of being a bucket filler into our language centre. We placed a chart with all the names of the students in the class, sticky notes and writing tools. We also brainstormed a number of things to write and placed them on cue cards. The children loved making others feel good!
Whenever we place dry eraser markers at the language and math tables our students love to visit the centres to print words or numbers. This past week we changed our paint easels into dry erase easels. We encouraged the children to print their friend's name and the letters of the alphabet. It was a hit! Take a look.
Max double checks the spelling of Joseph's name and then finds a spot on the easel to print it. Great work Max!
Last week we noticed that our students were replicating our morning routines during our activity time. Mya began by taking the names of the students and calling them out for attendance. They were having so much fun that we decided to change our drama centre into a Kinder School.
