During our shared reading of the book 'The Gingerbread Man'. We used the illustrations to make predictions, we used a Venn diagram to compare the differences between books, we retold the story using picture cues and then on the last day we made and baked our very own Gingerbread Man! We started by rolling the dough.
We then carefully pieced him together.
Once he was all together, we decided to decorate him.
He was now ready to be baked in the oven. After reading the story, Max asked that Mrs. Doyle triple lock the oven so that he wouldn't get out. So that is what she did. We let him bake for 15 minutes and then went and checked on him.
We unlocked the oven and opened it up to find that he had ESCAPED!
We looked around and couldn't find him but we did find a note that he left behind. Mrs. Doyle read the note out loud and the Gingerbread Man had left a clue that he was playing in a very large room that started with a soft /g/ sound. We guessed the gym.
So we went to the gym and looked around and Toby found a clue. It was a piece of the Gingerbread Man and again he left us a note.
Mrs. Doyle read the note. The Gingerbread Man told us that he got scared when another class came into the gym so he decided to go somewhere quiet where he could read a book. He told us the place he was going to go and hide started with a /l/ sound. We guessed the library. So off we went to the library.
We searched and searched the library. Finally Lincoln and Elijah found some crumbs by the computer and another note. The note said he had fun at the library but decided to head to the main part of the building and was going to be in a place that started with an /o/ sound. We guessed the office. We knew we would catch him there.
When we went into the office we noticed some crumbs by the window. Again he left a note. In his note he explained that he was enjoying the view looking out the window when Mrs. Meloche and Mrs. Lowes came up behind him and tried to catch him. He ran as fast as he could but realized that he was tired and that he was going to head back to our classroom where it was safe.
When we arrived back at our classroom, the Gingerbread Man had found a nice spot on our rocking chair and just like the fox in the story we all went "SNIP, SNAP" and ate him up!
